    THE POWER OF LANGUAGE

For many people in the western world,

we’ve never known how it feels to have our identity or our language forbidden.

What if your language was banned?

What if your language was completely unrecognised?

    What language would you speak?

How would you connect with others?

How would you pass on your heritage?

These questions are commonplace for many Oromo families.

When you ask Oromo parents what they want to teach their children,

most will tell you, “To speak Afaan Oromo”.

The Oromo language is the healing that connects our cultural fabric together.

  • Join us for a historical milestone in Oromo Education!

Afaan Publications is thrilled to announce a landmark event at Bultum Academy, the first charter school in North America authorized to teach Afaan Oromo alongside its regular curriculum. From August 26th to September 2nd, 2024, we are honored to have our founder, the esteemed Oromo psychologist and educator Toltu Tufa, lead a week-long series of transformative activities.

This collaboration underscores our commitment to preserving and promoting the Oromo language and culture. During her visit, Toltu Tufa will deliver cultural competency training to non-Oromo teachers, providing them with essential knowledge of Oromo traditions and values. She will also enhance the skills of Oromo educators through specialized training in the Afaan Oromo language curriculum, empowering them to better serve their students.

We invite the broader community to join us on August 30th for an open house at Bultum Academy. This event will offer parents the chance to meet Toltu Tufa and explore the critical role of Afaan Oromo education.

We believe this milestone event will resonate deeply with those committed to the future of Oromo heritage and education. We encourage media outlets to cover this occasion, highlighting the dedication of both Bultum Academy and Toltu Tufa in advancing the cause of Oromo language and culture.
